Where do you discover music?
« on: March 16, 2011, 06:34:18 PM »

So ive been wondering, where do you get your knowledge on new tracks, artists, shows, ETC?? What blogs do you follow, forums, or websites that you frequent that give you the lowdown?

I try to keep up with "The Music Ninja" and "Stereogum" which are updated via Pulse (news app for iPhone).

http://generationbass.com/ great blog for dubstep/drumstep/glitch hop

main 2 glitch hop blogs i goto
http://www.bwompbeats.com/
http://www.doktorkrank.net/

http://www.mutimusic.com/index.php/releases/
http://www.addictech.com/store/charts.php

www.beatport.com i check top100 dubstep and dnb charts once every couple of months

http://forum.funkysouls.com/index.php tons of unreleased dubs here but i rarely go

these sites i used togo to alot, some of them suck now
www.idmtrade.net
http://nodata.tv/
http://hush-house.blogspot.com/search/label/Dubstep
http://www.egothieves.com
http://squittybubbler.com/

pandora and slacker internet radio -- where i pretty much started discovering tons of new edm back in 06, although nowadays iirc grooveshark is the best for that

last but not least sometimes i just go clicking around on youtube related stuff, sometimes i get lucky picking producers or song names that i think sound cool haha. and as a general rule, if you find somebody you really like, check out the record label(s) he/shes has released stuff on, similar artist on multiple sites(lastfm and such), myspace friends, their subscriptions, etc etc, stalk them :)

Internet radio shows are the best imo. Just find one that plays your favorite music and listen to it alot. BassDrive is my favorite for drum n bass because the DJ's normally call out the tracks like they would on regular radio, They are constantly trying to out do each other with newer fresher shit, they drop a shit ton of knowledge bombs, and if you like a set you can download it when it gets to the archives.

Soundcloud, Addictech, Timewarpbass, SubSynthesis, Bwompbeats, DoktorKrank, AfroMonk, The Untz.

Most of it comes from word of mouth though. Homies talkin bout homies and then their homies talkin bout some kid that is 13 that has come up like crazy and is better than all of us.

Also I look direct to labels websites. Muti, LuckyMe, Robox Neotech, Simplify, Daly City, Made in Glitch, etc...
