Anime/Manga
« on: May 04, 2009, 01:44:01 PM »

Didn't realize there were so many that watched anime on this site. I figured I'd create a dedicated thread. I'll start with my top 5, in no particular order.

Top 5: Ouran High School Host Club, Great Teacher Onizuka, Mushishi, Honey and Clover, Hikaru no Go

That actually was quite difficult, I have a lot I really enjoy. I've kept a list of every anime I've watched. It's come in handy more than once, mainly when people are asking what the good ones are. I'd recommend this to other people.

I haven't watched very many. I've been meaning to watch Galaxy Express 999 and Hikaru no Go. I've really enjoyed Samurai Champloo and FLCL just for their soundtracks.

lol, i've been wanting to make this thread for like 8 months.

lazyness...

i wish i had kept a list of anime i've watched, it would be pretty huge cause i used to watch the shit nonstop in 2000/01, got bored with it awhile back tho for reasons i'll get into later, for now here is a small collection i amassed of my favs while i was in the navy circa 2004:

I got into anime for a little bit, but it was only 3-4 shows. Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL and Death Note. Don't remember ever really liking anyting other than those. I used to live with some dragonball heads back in Dallas, so they scared me away from ever diving head on into anime. Ohhh yeah and Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D and M.D. Geist.

flcl was the shizy i wish they would've done more with it than the 6ep thing...what a waste.

i've seen several vamp hunter animes but none of them ever really appealed to me, ninja scroll and akira were the first anime's i ever saw back in 96 iirc. was sorta hooked after those and they remain high in my list of favs.

man i used to be the biggest dbz head too back in 97 when i was a freshie in hs. its funny cause i half-attribute anime as the reason for me getting into computers more. me and my crew used to hangout in the japan-dbz chat on aol. trading horrible quality episodes from japan(this was when there was only 50 or so dubbed episodes that played on fox weekends, before cartoon network). we(mostly asian people) would sit around all day pretending to be anime chars, role playing and shit. my internet CLAN name was silver dragonz lol...thats what the sd in my aim name stands for(tommy 2 sd). but anywys i got way tired of that a year or 2 down the line cause dbz is a pretty retarded anime. if u compare it to edm it would be tiesto. that being said i still enjoyed the 40th anniversary special episode they had last year...took me back.

but yea my taste is sorta similar to scotts with anime, i love action and fights and wont watch an anime unless it has really good amounts of both. even a really good storyline needs some to make me appreciate it, exceptions are very rare but they do exist(serial experiments lain comes to mind). i stopped watching anime for the most part because theres not alot of good action and fight based ones. the ones that do focus on fighting are mostly series with shotty/cheap animation :( and i dont have the time to seek out the truly good ones. another reason why i stopped is i dont really care for the culture surrounding anime. otakus piss me off and are make it so nobody ever takes the genre with sincerity or seriousness lol. its like liquid with ravers but 20x worse. i think my man hideki anno(creator of evangelion) put it best when he said the otaku lifestyle is a form of forced autism. i've still got friends from hs that act no different than 12 years ago when i met them.

speaking of evangelion tho, it is my #1 fav anime of all time probably forever. hell the end of evangelion movie is one of my fav movies in general(non-anime). has anyone seen the quasi-remake they are doing of the entire series and the movies? its 3 or 4 movies but only the first part is out...covering all the way up until askua or so. i have mixed feelings about it but cant wait to see the next installment this summer/fall.

^^ this is why i was so lazy to start the anime thread. i've got alot to say lol.

Yeah man I have seen all things Evangelion. I read a while back that they were thinking of doing live action film based on it. That would be pretty sick to see the Eva's and Angels all bigscreen style.

i may be wrong but i think that got canc'd awhile back, its probably for the best cause they were tossing around concept ideas and it looked pretty butchered...like dragonball evolution style(but with better effects cause WETA(lord of the rings) was gonna do them).

actually as of Feb. this year, it's still something that is in the works. Slated shoot dates could be anywhere between now and 2015 though so I dunno if it will ever happen. If they were able to make a dope version of that final movie, then it would be tight! as long as it didn't look at shit.

the Death Note series was dope as hell, that and NGE are my fav of the anime series (haven't seen many but those were sick). You should def check it out, very psychological. They made 2 Death Note movies to accompany the manga as well.

WOW that is nerdy

samurai champloo is not getting enough love here, have you guys seen it? maybe it doesn't live up to cowboy bebop (i don't know, i haven't seen cowboy bebop), but i can't see how anyone here wouldn't like it.
