I would have to agree with Tommy and Kai, in that violence exist everywhere. One can only take so many precautions before it turns to paranoia.
I myself, live in Chicago, in what I consider a bad, if not ghetto, neighborhood; its ridden with gangs, drugs, dropouts, shootings, and sonstant cops partolling (which should only verify that I live in a bad neighborhood). Yet, I feel at ease walking around. In fact I\'ve walked around at all hours of the day and nothing happened. I used sneak out between 1-3am to clear my head and walk around, Nothing happens. Part of it, I learned is to keep to yourself.
Yet, I\'d like to note that subburbs, great suburban america scares me. Take Park Ridge, a subburb located just northwest of CHicago, there you can find huge beautiful homes surrounded by green, yet at night, there are no street lights or cops to be found (thats cuz they\'re on the main roads waiting to pull you over for speeding). Its hard to make out my friend\'s housese let alone their addresses. A number of things can happen, which like Kai mentioned have (and to clarify, no one was draged out of said car). You need to look at the context and circumstance under each violent crime that happens. Take rape, 90% of rape occurs from people we know. Now, I\'m not going to live in fear of every man, or woman, that I know, and think they\'re going to rape me. But it happens. Or take guns and ask yourself, why were they created? To hurt, if not kill you from a far range. So the whole point of someone at close range holding a gun to your face is stupid if they wanted to kill you, but its probably to scare you if not have some sort of power over you. Now, I\'m not telling people to not comply or try to overcome someone holding a gun to your face, but act rationally. If they wanted to kill you they would have done it already, if they didn\'t want something from you (AGAIN, don\'t argue me on this)
