Ted Talks: Stroke of Insight
« on: March 18, 2008, 07:08:05 AM »

I found this on a blog called Reality Apologetics:

Quote
In this video from this year's Ted Talks, neuroscientist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor discusses the experience of having an ischemic stroke in the left hemisphere of her brain, and what it taught her about consciousness and the human condition. It's an incredibly moving video, and one of the best TED Talks I've ever seen; that says quite a lot.

It's about 20 minutes long. I thought it was an excellent watch, although I wonder if this could be subject to Wittgenstein's private language argument. It might be interesting to get scans of her brain to see if there is any noticeable change when she is choosing right brain or left brain.

cool...

left and right brain dynamics are always intriguing.  i saw a program in school on people who had their corpus callosum severed in accidents.  they did these tests where they showed only one eye a piece of information, like a picture of an object.  in some instances, they'd be able to describe the object in great detail but not be able to identify it.  i think once, a guy was unable to say the name of the object out loud, but would be able to write it out with his left hand.

Great video...thx..=)...She asked an interesting question ..Which would I choose?...That question in itself is the problem......The trick is getting both sides to work at a high level together.....If you are only euphoric you'll ignore self preservation and fall apart......If you are only concerned with self preservation you will never enjoy a moment

What I thought/felt about her clip...

Why was I happy she felt nirvana?

for her because she found nirvana.?
for me because that means i could too.?
for us because her joy made the world better.?

Why was I sad she found Nirvana.?

for her because she felt pain.?
for me because I didn't feel it.?
for us because we don't know exactly how she did it.?

Why was I happy she had a stroke.?

for me because I learned from it.?
for her because she found nirvana
for us because we are closer to finding out how we can do it.?

Why was I sad she had a stroke.?

For her because she felt pain.?
For me because It could happen to me.?
For us because one of us felt pain.?

What I would like to know is if I thought all of that together at once.? (ONE = ALL).? or i did I think each seperately at a diffrent time.? (ALL = ONE).?....

Alotta questions huh.? =)

I'll try to answer one...

So, which would I choose.?..right brain or left brain or both.?....This ONE would choose ALL

One question of hers resulted in 20 questions of mind......as long as that cycle continues WE'LL figure it all out.....in time :)
