Dancing to Smoothe Jazz
« on: June 11, 2011, 09:56:24 AM »

I was on hold waiting to speak to a customer service rep the other day when I realized that the hold music was so fucking weird.  It exists simply to avoid dead air.  It's also designed not to be good, but to be bad to the least number of people possible.  Basically, blandness is a feature that's functionally stitched into this type of music.

I found the "smoothe jazz" Pandora station and started dancing to it.  It's music with no point of view.  It's empty of meaning.  It's also challenging to dance to, and I also find that it forces me to address my personal voice.

TL;DR - Smoothe Jazz is fun to dance to because it has no point of view.

Reminds me of this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_for_Airports

Brian Eno - 1-2 - Ambient 1 - Music For Airports - 1978

Great stuff for artsy fartsy interpretative liquid and waving... and maybe for some roll around on the floor contemporary dance lol. But Aphex twin selected ambient works II would be a better choice just b/c the music is like music for airports but with a weird twist... more tension than relaxation.

Aphex Twin - Parallel Stripes

Anyways I like more downtempo music with a twist so smooth jazz that's infused with idm beats, hip hop beats, or 2-step beats is right up my alley.
