Some of my new stuff
« on: July 24, 2011, 05:45:37 PM »

I've been getting inspired by hip hop choreo for some reason lately and it's been seeping into my dance:

Style Blending (liquid tutting robotics gliding hip hop choreo inspired)

and messing around one night for fun:

Digits session for fun

in the digits section you have a briliant transition from finger box to finger box 0:32 ...to 0.34 you used it letter again at 1;51to 1:52 in a diffrent form ...........very clever aproch gives a difrent dimention .......to an old transition that everybody uses .

^I do believe I'm finding what they would term in creative writing as my "voice". So starting to develop my personal dance voice. Took long enough... but I have a really strong visualization of what I need to do tie in my whole body. Before I was sort of stumbling around trying one thing and another. But now I know what I need to do.

damn dude some really great stuff right there.
i personally loved the dimestops and robotics (the outstretched arm ticking was the best) as well as your tutting and digitz.

your liquid is good, but at times it was a bit sloppy, and your transitions could use a little work.
your waving is topnotch, but (it might just be me) you could tone it down a little, it seems over used at times.

Always a pleasure to see your stuff man

Short sleeve liquid kills me. And tbh, personally, I've only seen a few ppl ever pull it off well. Frequency comes to mind.

I gave this style where I rounded my liquid a try for quite awhile now. It's not working out though. I'm going to go back to what suits my body which is the more linear style. Which is what works best for ppl with lanky arms imo. ppl with thicker arms can pull off a really nice rounded look without the jagged edges. So I'm just going to stop fighting it and do what suits me. But I did learn a lot though from pursuing the style. It was a nice little side trail to pursue to the logical end.

eh theres nothing wrong with trying it out. you should still try to perfect it in my opinion. while the linear style suits you, trying to improve your curved space liquid will only help you.
im a little bit opposite. my round hand flow comes easier and more naturally to me than linear rails. i have a lot of trouble keeping completely straight lines with flow, usually messing up the illusion. I thought THAT was a lot harder than curved flow, but i guess it just depends on the person

that looked bad on me too.... but so does linear....so now I use pacman rules....straight paths with curved corners ... or take the squares out of a grid and replace them with dice .....best of both worlds.... it's not lazy it's just that liquid cuts corners as a rule .. also your waves and robot are looking uber clean ........ I love how you always seem to progress the most at the basics  .......

lol yeah I can pretty much look at a person and kind of intuitively know what kind of liquid is going to fit their arms the best.

thin lanky arms - linear
big short arms  - rounded

It's all body type.

straight paths with curved corners ... or take the squares out of a grid and replace them with dice

Can you not bend your wrists back 90 degrees? That seems to be a problem with people who have stocky arms and short sausage fingers I found lol. Although I have a flaw in one wrist where I can't go back 90 degrees. Makes tutting really annoying b/c I have to work around it. Also can't put any mass on my arms... forever lanky. Everyone seems to have one body part that just lags and won't grow when they lift and others that explode. My lagging part is the arms. And the first thing someone looks at is the arms. Doesn't even look like I work them out haha. But if you can mass your arms easy then you can usually have some sweet rounded liquid and micro arm waves. Bigger fingers can suck for digits though when you make shapes but can make very nice finger waves. Everything has its pros and cons.
