For simplicity's sake, I feel that a centralized presence on the web is key to maintaining the communal development of Liquid. That's why Floasis.Net exists. However, there are downsides with centralization and lately it seems like many people came to the consensus that Floasis.Net = kai. I don't want this to be true, but between video content and blogging combined with a lack of participation on the forums, it became such and needed sorely to change.
I wanted the site to become more focused on sharing. Sharing videos, critiques, updates on concepts, inspirational information, events, etc. Most importantly though I wanted people to feel like they could build something that represented who they were as a dancer (think Journey Thread, but less messy and more connected). A page where, at a glance, a person could recognize who you are, what kind of content you make and share and where you're going to be dancing so they can connect with you.
The bottom line is that forums are outdated and traditional blogging platforms are dictatorial. With the new platform we're using, we're able to follow the updates of the people who inspire us, tag and rate videos along with our critiques (which will make for some amazing sorting capabilities in the near future), showcase clips on our profile pages (check out mine to see what this looks like, I'll have an instructional up on how to do this soon), have our own blogs packed with personalized content, and session with video real time right in the website (click the Chat button in the menu).
The basic premise is to centralize the resource, but decentralize control and input on the information. I think this is a great platform to make that happen.
